Lately, I've come to appreciate Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, and the Gospel of John. There are some good bits if you allow yourself to take it strictly as metaphor and leave the offensive stuff out.

Do you blame the book or the nature of the people who latch on and use it's breadth and scope to justify anything they wish to believe?

Hi Jonathan! I do believe the Bible has good bits in it -- it's just that I don't think those good bits add up to making it the world's best wisdom literature, like so many people claim. For my money, the Tao Te Ching, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Dharmapada, and many, many other works all surpass the Bible for wisdom.


Hi Amuirin! I blame neither the book nor the people here. I'm merely suggesting the Bible is not all it's cracked up to be as wisdom literature. After all, many people believe it to be the best wisdom literature in the world. That's patently false, in my humble opinion.
